All,
In answer to Dave Mogk's request for informal discussion on this list
I'll describe what I am bringing to the meeting.
I work in a software development shop at the UW/NOAA that has developed
a web based data access and visualization tool we call the Live Access
Server (affectionately known as 'LAS'). I do not teach oceanography but
we have heard from several educators who use LAS in their courses.
My goal is to introduce the group to LAS and how others are using it in
an educational context. To that end I would like to give a quick
overview of LAS functionality and configurability and distribute some
example lectures and problem sets that use LAS available data.
To get a flavor of what LAS is I would direct you to our main LAS web page:
* http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/Ferret/LAS/
and the following sites that have done an excellent job of configuring
LAS to present their own data:
* NVODS <http://ferret.pmel.noaa.gov/NVODS/servlets/dataset>
(National Virtual Oceanographic Data System)
* PFEL <http://las.pfeg.noaa.gov/las/> (Pacific Fisheries
Environmental Laboratory)
* My Nasa Data <http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/data.html> (NASA
data for educators)
* AVISO <http://las.aviso.oceanobs.com/las/servlets/dataset>
(Archiving, Validation and Interpretation of Satellite
Oceanographic data)
Looking forward to seeing everyone in sunny Seattle ;-)
