Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted as a participant
in the NAGT On the Cutting Edge Workshop "Teaching About the Ocean
System Using New Research Techniques: Data, Models and Visualization"
which will be held July 6-9 at the School of Oceanography, University of
Washington (Seattle). We have a really interesting mix of participants
representing very broad interests in oceanography--this should be a
really exciting (and fun) workshop!

As you know, workshop participants are expected to
· Prepare in advance for workshop discussions via readings, writings,
discussion, or other activities developed by workshop leaders.
· Contribute to resource collections prior to and following the
workshop (e.g. data, data products, class activities...).
· Participate fully in the entire workshop.
· Be leaders in follow-on activities leading to broad implementation
(e.g. theme session at professional society meetings, etc).
We have developed a workshop website
(http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/ocean05/index.html ) that will
serve as our organizational hub with information about registration,
logistics, program, and related resources. You can also use this
listserv to start pre-workshop discussions about Teaching Oceanography
by posting queries or comments for consideration by the group.

Please register on-line via the website to confirm your participation in
the workshop. This form will also provide us with information about
your travel itinerary and any special needs. The registration deadline
is May 1, 2005. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are
indeed committed to attend. If not, the workshop has a very large
waiting list and we would appreciate being able to accommodate as many
deserving participants as possible. If you withdraw from the workshop
after June 1, you will be responsible for all costs incurred on your
behalf.

The National Science Foundation provides funding for your room and board
at the workshop. You, or your institution, are responsible for
transportation costs and any incidental costs. If this causes a
hardship, we do have a small fund to help offset travel costs in cases
of special need. To apply, please fill out the Travel Stipend Request
Form <http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/travelstipend.html>
before May 1.

We'll be sending additional information in the near future. For now,
we're delighted to have you "on board" and will look forward to meeting
all of you in Seattle this summer.

Sincerely,
Dave Mogk, Deb Kelley, Al Trujillo and Cathy Manduca
