Hi Folks-Now that everyone has a plan to get to the Watertown Hotel,
here is info about navigating the UW campus:
A campus map can be downloaded at: http://www.washington.edu/home/maps/
We'll also have a print map in each of your workshop folders that you
can pick up when you arrive at the Waterton.
Here are some coordinates for you. The Watertown Hotel is located at
43rd and Roosevelt-this is located on the NW quadrant of the map (in the
off-campus gray area) click on the map in the general area to see a
blow-up.
The opening reception, dinner and first presentation will be at the
Waterfront Activities Center. This is on the SE quadrant of the map, on
Lake Washington behind Husky Football Stadium. It's about a 20-30
minute walk from hotel to the WAC. The University of Washington campus
is very pretty in the summer, so enjoy a stroll through the buildings,
gardens, and hopefully catch a glimpse of Mt. Rainier to the south and
the Cascades to the east. We will also be running shuttle vans from the
hotel to the WAC. The reception starts at 5:00, dinner at 6:00, opening
presentation by John Delaney will be at 7:00.
All other activities on Thursday and Friday will be centered around room
425 Ocean Sciences Building, near the intersection of 15th and Boat
Street (SW quadrant of the map). This is about a 10 minute walk downhill
from the hotel. Again, we'll have a shuttle van if you need assistance
getting to/from the workshop. Note, there's a lot of construction in
the area, but you should be able to walk through this down 15th Ave.
This is a fantastic new building at UW, and we're very fortunate to be
able to use their facilities for the workshop.
Breakfasts will be at the Waterton Hotel, but there are also a myriad of
other restaurants to choose from in the general University District if
you're looking for more diversity in your food selections (and of
course, there's a coffee shop on just about every corner in Seattle).
Deb has arranged for catered lunches and the first two dinners.
Needless to say, there are also many options for evening "networking" at
local watering holes as well.
Field trip: Will leave from the Waterton Hotel at 8 AM, with a targeted
return at 6:00 PM. Lunches and snacks will be provided.
One other request: We would like to have everyone submit a Participant
Medical Information Form which can be downloaded at:
http://serc.carleton.edu/files/NAGTWorkshops/Workshop_health_form.pdf
Please fill out the form and give this to one of the conveners when you
arrive at the workshop. This information is strictly confidential
(submit in a sealed envelope if you want) and will be destroyed after
the workshop. We need to have this information on hand should there be
a medical emergency-we need to know who to contact, first-care providers
will need to know some basic medical background, etc.
Thanks to all for your preparations for the workshop, and especially to
Deb Kelley at UW, and Jen Millner and Karin Kirk here at MSU. This is
promising to be a great show! Have a great holiday weekend, safe
travels, and we'll see you in just a few days.
Best to all,
Dave Mogk
