Dear Teaching Geochemistry Workshop Participants,
It's hard to believe but the Teaching Geochemistry Workshop and
Goldschmidt Conference are only a little over a week away. You can
check out the workshop program and participant list at the website:
http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/geochemistry05/index.html
We have a great roster of speakers who will present interesting and
diverse strategies and approaches to teaching geochemistry. This should
prove to be a very exciting and fun event.
We have been working hard to build digital collections of teaching
resources for geochemistry. There is a general collection of on-line web
resources that support teaching geochemistry at:
http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/geochemistry/internetresources.html
Use the "faceted search" boxes on the right of the screen to narrow your
search for specific resources according to topic, application and
resource type.
Many of you have already submitted some pretty cool new teaching
activities, and these can be found at:
http://serc.carleton.edu/NAGTWorkshops/geochemistry/activities.html
I encourage you to take a few minutes to browse through the website to
help prepare for the workshop. Please use the "contribute a resource"
link to add any additional URLs that you use in your own teaching, and
please go ahead and submit any additional activities you might care to
share.

Although we have a rich array of presentations, we have also scheduled a
number of opportunities for small-group discussions and informal
networking. This workshop is all about interactive participation and
sharing ideas....we hope you'll leave the workshop with both new friends
and new ideas.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE ON THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO CAMPUS on Wednesday, May 18:
All of our activities will take place at the Living-Learning Community
--you'll have to check a campus map for directions when you get there.
Our central meeting area will be near the southwest corner of the
complex, generally near the Information Desk and Starbuck's Coffee Shop,
I'm told.
We will have our workshop registration and opening reception at 5:00PM
(pick up your name badges, information packets, and meet some new
friends over a cold drink), and then we'll have a group dinner at 6:00
PM. The opening session will begin at 7:00 PM. We'll cover the cost of
the opening dinner and snack breaks during the workshop. You'll have to
cover costs for your own breakfasts, lunches, and other dinners.
I'm starting my travels towards Idaho tomorrow (with 2 other meetings en
route), but I'll try to stay current with my e-mail while traveling.
Darrell Henry (dhenry at geol.lsu.edu) can answer questions about the
workshop program, Karin Kirk can possibly help with other logistical
questions (kkirk at montana.edu) and Mickey Gunter (mgunter at uidaho.edu) has
been a great help in organizing the local logisics on the U of I campus.
Let's all be sure to give all our speakers and especially Mickey a big
round of thanks (and buy Mickey a beer when you get there--he won't
object!).
Best wishes to all. Have safe travels, and we're very much looking
forward to seeing you at the workshop.
Happy trails,
Dave Mogk and Darrell Henry
workshop co-conveners
