From mogk at montana.edu Tue Apr 8 14:04:56 2003 From: mogk at montana.edu (David Mogk) Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2003 15:04:56 -0600 Subject: [Biowksp] Workshop Follow-Up Message-ID: <3E933978.1060208@montana.edu> Greetings Workshoppers-- I hope that everyone had safe and uneventful travels home from Montana. I'd like to thank the entire group for all your efforts in making this workshop a success--rich discussions, presentations, demonstrations, and of course lots of good networking. We made a lot of good progress. Now, let's be sure to keep the momentum going. Here are a few follow-up items: 1. For those of you who didn't get a chance to submit the end-of-workshop evaluation (deposited at the Grantree Inn reception desk), the form is attached and you can send electronic responses, fax or mail the form to John McLaughlin at: MACGROUPX at aol.com John A. McLaughlin 3336 N. Riverside Drive Lanexa, VA 23089 (757) 566-4839 (F) 2. For the images you initially sent for the icebreaker, could you please send a brief caption? We'll use these images again on the webpage to demonstrate the breadth of our interestsin biocomplexity. 3. Many of you took your own photographs or digital images during the workshop. Please send us your best shots to include in an archive of workshop activities. Karin and I took a number of shots, but I"m sure many of you have mo' better pictures as well. There were many memorable moments and it will be fun to showcase these in an image gallery. 4. We have one lost pair of binoculars reported after the field trip: black, no case, with an attached black neckband.. These weren't left in the vans, so please let us know if they somehow made it home with you. I'll be working on the workshop statement to be sent to Tom Baerwald. So, be looking for this tomorrow and please give us your feedback. Thanks again to all for your many contributions. Please keep in touch with all via the listserv, through continued collaborations, and report back to the workshop series about what impacts the workshop may have had in your own teaching/research in the coming year(s). Please take a moment to review this. You can send comments to me directly, or if there are general issues, send to this listserv. Please send the file back with changes tracked if you can. I'll make the revisions and get this back to Tom at the end of Friday. So, please send comments by mid-day this Friday. Hope you're all back in the groove back home. And thanks to folks for sending image captions, and new images of the workshop activities. Complexly yours, Dave M. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <3E96C85F.3010301@montana.edu> Hey workshoppers--can you believe that at this time last week we had already covered a full day's agenda, and many of you were soaking in the hot springs, or getting ready for another feast? Where did the week go already? Thanks to all who provided input to the letter of recomendations to NSF. I have collated your good comments into this latest version. Note that there is now an additional (last) bullet which is a synthesis of Mark Francek and Marjie Chan's input (with a little of my own massaging). Please make any final suggestions before mid-day tomorrow, and I'll submit this to Tom Baerwald at the end of the day. Also, please let us know if you would like us to send a letter to your administration that acknowledges your participation in this workshop. Please send us names, titles, mailing (snail mail) or e-mail addresses of the folks on your campus who should be informed of your activities. We'll get these letters out in the next couple of weeks. Please send this information to me (mogk at montana.edu) and also copy to Karin Kirk (kkirk at montana.edu). I hope you've all now recovered--I'm finally getting my voice back after a bout of laryngitis--and don't forget to write "home" and tell us what you're up to in the coming year! Cheers to all, Dave M. (Sorry this had to be sent Friday AM. Our server was down late yesterday afternoon). -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It was wonderful getting a chance to talk with you at the workshop. I was so impressed during the field trip with your comments and observations as we progressed through the day. I realized that much of your data are out there for you to observe -- you are in many cases the instrument. In my game, while observation is essential, for me to arrive at a balanced, more in-depth understanding, I have to contrive ways to get into people's minds. Yep, that's the purpose of this e-mail -- to date I have received 13 surveys -- not enough to make a good judgment about the workshop. So, please take a few minutes out of your busy schedule to complete the survey that is attached. Of course if you have already done so, a BIG THANKS!
