So far, more than 500 middle- and high-school classrooms around the world have signed up for this on-line expedition to hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean, which will run from November 30 to December 20. Join marine scientists as they work in one of the most extreme environments on the planet in their quest to learn more about the Pompeii worm and the "fleece" of bacteria that live right on its back. The worm is able to withstand temperatures up to 176?F (80?C). The award-winning program is hosted by the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies with support from the National Science Foundation, NOAA Sea Grant, and WHYY-TV (PBS).
