Investigating Precipitation: Snow part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
In this chemistry field/class based activity, students investigate snow and, more specifically, why snowflakes have six sides. Students will individually fossilize a snowflake and observe similarities and differences with other members in the class. Students will develop a testable question about the formation of snowflakes, and will learn about the water molecule bonds that form the hexagonal symmetry of a snowflake.
Investigating Plant Life in Our Nature Center part of MnSTEP Teaching Activity Collection:MnSTEP Activity Mini-collection
In this Nature Center activity, students will apply knowledge from our classifying living things unit. They will compare what they already know about leaves to actual leaf samples. After collecting 5 leaves and keeping them in a journal, they will use a dichotomous key to correctly identify trees in our nature center.
