Activities (2)

Campus Map Scale part of Cutting Edge:Introductory Courses:Activities
Students are given a map of the campus and asked to devise a method to determine the map scale. The method for determining scale is not prescribed, requiring the students to work in small groups to brainstorm a suitable method. Rulers and tape measures are provided for students to measure distances on campus on the map, but the exact method is left up to the students.

Soil Properties part of Cutting Edge:Introductory Courses:Activities
In this activity, students determine soil texture and color using a "texture-by-feel" analysis and Munsell color charts. In addition to these basic tests, students also devise their own soil "classification" schemes and make comparisons among local soil samples.

Physical Geography part of Cutting Edge:Introductory Courses:Courses
This is a survey course designed to cover key concepts in physical geography, from climate change to landscape processes to map interpretation. The course has no laboratory component but includes a variety of in-class activities to provide applications of course content.
