Olympic College

Greetings. I will add to this later (I am new), but essentially I've been committed to living sustainably, researching it, and encouraging my students to live it from their heart for years (and years). My newest focus is on finding sources outside of the U.S. that will entice students to both discover what others are doing and hear their stories.  I view sustainability as huge, broad: an ethical, moral and just way of living and sharing.

I have my Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington, Seattle, and my MFA in Poetry is from the University of Iowa. I was a Fulbright-Nehru Visiting Lecturer at Central University of Himachal Pradesh, India, 2012, and I was a Fulbright Lecturer at Tamkang University in Taiwan, 2002. Part of my research looks at sustainability and diasporas, but I have published work that addresses environmental and social justice issues, etc. I have also bicycled all over the world and (in a former life) wrote books on bicycling.  I teach all genres of writing at Olympic College, and I've been with the Sustainability Advisory Council since its inception some six years ago.

I've been active with all the bioregional work that Jeanne MacGregor (wonderful scholar) has done through the Evergreen State College, and I've participated in conferences on contemplative pedagogy and sustainability. I am interested in getting from anyone who cares to share (please do!) their best resources on sustainability that is happening outside the U.S. I'm particularly interested in narratives from individuals or NGOs that are working with any aspect of sustainability. Thank you in advance for sharing!
