What does it mean to observe, look, see? How does quantitative reasoning inform our appreciation of the visual world? I argue that we need to do re-visioning to develop insight. While my background is in biology and mathematics, I am particularly interested in the movement from STEM to STEAM which incorporates arts into science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. As the Director of an interdisciplinary program, I specialize in developing collaborations between the arts, humanities, and social sciences with science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The mutual respect that can develop between studio artists, art historians, and arts conservationists with image analysts, modelers of pattern formation and morphogenesis, and spatial statisticians afford rich collaborations that can inform our mutual understanding of images.
