trophy NESTA recognizes exceptional achievement and service through its awards. These include the Jan Woerner & Harold B. Stonehouse Lifetime Achievement Award, the Thomas B. Ervin Distinguished Service Award, NESTA Fellows, certificates of service, certificates of appreciation, and honorary memberships.

Jan Woerner & Harold B. Stonehouse Lifetime Achievement Award

This award is presented in honor of Jan Woerner & Harold (Stoney) Stonehouse, two of the founders of NESTA. This prestigious lifetime achievement award is given biennially at the discretion of the NESTA Executive Committee. The award is given in recognition of an individual or organization's efforts in promoting Earth Science education in keeping with the goals of NESTA. Nomination procedures are quite specific, so to begin the nomination of an individual or organization for this award, please contact the NESTA Awards Committee Chair, Richard M. Thomas B. Ervin Distinguished Service Award

This award is presented to officers and volunteers who provide dedicated service. Nominations are made by the Board of Directors and recipients are acknowledged with a certificate of status. To begin the nomination of an individual, please contact Richard M. Jones at rmjones7@hawaii.edu.

NESTA Fellows

These awardees are five-year members who contribute substantially and with excellence to Earth Science education and to NESTA itself. The nomination and at least 3 letters of support are to be submitted by January 15th or the closest Saturday to that date. The Executive Committee has final approval of this recognition, whose annual number shall not exceed 1% of the NESTA membership at the end of that calendar year. Recipients are acknowledged with a certificate of status and recognition at the annual meeting and in The Earth Scientist. To begin the nomination of an individual, please contact Richard M. Certificates of Service or Certificates of Appreciation

These awards are presented to those who contribute to the well-being of NESTA. These persons may be those who have served as an elected or appointed official, or they may be individuals or organizations who have provided exceptional support for NESTA. To begin the nomination of an individual or organization for this award, please contact Richard M. Jones at rmjones7@hawaii.edu.

Honorary Memberships

These awards are presented to selected teachers and/or board members. This one or two-year, free membership carries with it all the rights and responsibilities of regular membership and is acknowledged with a certificate of status. NESTA recognizes Outstanding Earth Science Teachers awardees by providing them with a two-year honorary NESTA membership. Honorary NESTA Memberships

Recent awardees have been the recipients of the state and regional Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Awards (OESTA) from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT).
