Logistics for Travel and Accommodations

We will arrange for your accommodations on the Vassar Campus, within a 10 minute walk from all workshop activities, at:

Each participant will make his/her own travel arrangements for getting to and from the workshop, and you will be reimbursed for your expenses. Please arrange to arrive in Poughkeepsie during the evening of Sunday July 22, and arrange to leave from your airport of choice during the early evening of Wednesday July 25, following the tour of the Columbia Genome Center in New York City (see details of timing, below).

We have funding to reimburse you for your main mode of transport (mileage, train fare, air fare), and most modes of transport from local airports (see message below). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jodi and Erica at genomicsworkshop@vassar.edu, and please notify them of your final travel plans at your earliest convenience. (Travel information is requested on the Workshop Registration Form.)

To minimize costs, we ask you to make travel arrangements as soon as possible. For those who will be flying to the workshop, please keep in mind that if you attend the tour of the Columbia Genome Center on Wednesday, your return ground transportation plans to the airport may be different going to the workshop than when you return. Here we list your travel options:

  1. Driving: We will compensate anyone driving to the conference with the Vassar standard mileage allowance (subject to change by July). Please contact Jodi and Erica at genomicsworkshop@vassar.edu if you have any questions about directions.
  2. Train: There is an Amtrak stop in Poughkeepsie approximately 2 miles from campus. You can either arrange for Vassar transportation to the Alumnae House or take a taxi. Please contact Jodi and Erica at genomicsworkshop@vassar.edu if you have any questions about transport from the train station.
  3. Airplane: There are several options for travel into local airports. Please contact Jodi and Erica if you would like to discuss which airports might be the easiest or most efficient for travel. From the NYC airports (LaGuardia, JFK, Newark)you can travel by bus/train to Poughkeepsie, and then catch a cab to the Alumnae House or arrange to be picked up. From the Newburgh Aiport (Stewart Airport), we can arrange to pick you up from the airport. Below is a list of choices:

Stewart-Newburgh Airport (SWF): This is the closest airport to Vassar College, so the time and cost of transport to and from Vassar is minimal, but you likely have to make at least one flight connection during your trip. The easiest option is to arrange for Vassar transportation to/from airport through Jodi and Erica, although shuttle and rental car* options are available.

LaGuardia Airport (LGA): Approximately 1.5 hours from Vassar College by car (81 miles; time subject to traffic conditions); shuttle, train, and rental car* ground transport available. The easiest option is to arrange for a shuttle going to Vassar and returning from Columbia Genome Center by taxi.

JFK Airport (JFK): Approximately 2 hours from Vassar College by car (91 miles; time subject to traffic conditions); shuttle, train, and rental car* ground transport available. The easiest option is to arrange for a shuttle going to Vassar and returning from Columbia Genome Center by train.

Newark Airport (EWR): Approximately 2 hours from Vassar College (102 miles, time subject to traffic conditions); shuttle, train, and rental car* ground transport available. The easiest option is to arrange for a shuttle going to Vassar and returning from Columbia Genome Center by train.

Albany Airport (ALB): Approximately 1.5 hours from Vassar College (91 miles); shuttle and rental car* ground transport available. The easiest option is to arrange for a shuttle going to/from Vassar (we will be transporting you back to Vassar from Columbia Genome Center).

    * Note that do not have the funding to afford complete reimbursement for rental car expenses.

Ground transportation to/from the workshop: Please make your ground transportation plans keeping in mind whether or not you are attending the Columbia Genome Center tour on Wednesday, July 25. If you are attending, you may opt for different arrangements to/from the airport; if not, you can arrange round-trip shuttle/Vassar transport accommodations. The tour is scheduled to end at 3:30pm; please allow 3-4 hours before your scheduled departure flight (including travel and airport check-in time), depending on your departure airport.

Shuttles and car service arrangements to/from any of the area airports can be made through our preferred provider, Mahogany Ridge. Please contact Mahogany Ridge directly for price and reservations.
