Questions that came up about the color scheme were not on the Teacher Notes, but there were extensive ariticles on the classification system (Anderson) and it also give the US proportion in 1969 of these different broad classifications. It is interesting to compare with our present landuse.

I will write the authors to see if I can determine reason behind the color choices.

The Landuse TIFF layer present in the project does exend in the continental US, so you can look up your state. The WEBGIS site in Part 1 also would give information for counties in all 50 states. If you go beyond county sized files, you will be getting into giant files. Beware of what you ask for,

And my guess about purple - "transition" zones in a landuse map is that if probably is in a re-zoning state, as was suggested by one of you during the session.
