Part 2—Download Data

Step 1 –
Download Google Earth Files

In order to complete this chapter you will need the following three Google Earth (KMZ) files.

Right-click (PC) or control-click (Mac) the links below to download the project files to your computer. Choose the option that will download the file to your computer. "Download Linked File..." "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." are common browser commands to accomplish this task.

Sabino Creek ( 5kB Feb11 08)
Sabino Canyon Watershed ( 26kB Feb11 08)
Rillito Subbasin ( 21kB Feb11 08)
  1. Create a new folder on your computer called "Monsoon Data."
  2. Right-click the Sabino Creek ( 5kB Feb11 08) link to open a download window, then choose "Save Link As..."
  3. In the Download window, navigate to and select the "Monsoon Data" folder to store the files.
  4. Repeat for Sabino Canyon Watershed ( 26kB Feb11 08) and Rillito Subbasin ( 21kB Feb11 08).

Troubleshooting note: You must download and save each of the three files to your computer. This is necessary so that you will be able to open the files from within Google Earth as directed in Part 3.

Step 2 –
Download My World GIS Project File

A My World GIS project (with the extension ".m3vz") has been prepared for use in this chapter. Use the following link to download the file to your computer.
  1. Right-click (PC) or control-click (Mac) the link below to download the project file to your computer. Choose the option that will download the file to your computer. "Download Linked File..." "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." are common browser commands to accomplish this task. This is a large data file, so it may take several minutes to download. Do NOT unzip the file.

  2. Save this file in a place where you can easily locate it. If possible, store it in the Projects folder of the My World folders. The path to the folder is:
Applications (or Programs) > My World GIS 4.x > data > Projects.
My World GIS can open a project file wherever it is on your computer. However, to make it available through the Data Library, you must place it inside the My World GIS 4.x > data > Projects folder. The default location for My World GIS software is in the Applications or Programs (PC) folder.
