I was impressed with this project when I saw what you had done with it in conjunction with the data collections and imagery you had used to study Providence change over time and directly relate it back to your students.

It made me think about the city of Taunton changing over time from an agricultural to mill town and how the land use has changed over time with changes in industry and population growth. There has been many new schools built and in areas that were forested, wetland areas, and habitats for species of animals that were declining in number and what the city needed to do to build in these areas. As well as neighborhoods popping up in areas that had been forested.
Certainly, these changes have been documented over time in maps and arieal imagery.

I believe that would be a very interesting class project to undertake. I don't know where it would fit in under the curriculum guides for grade level in the middle schools but I would be willing to try a project such as this with a teacher from the school who would like to try it. I can see how to relate it to math with measurement of area over time with Image J comparing digital images and similar to what you did with the google maps and color coding areas and overlaying areas to see how the changes have occured over time. I also see how it relates to Science in the habitate changes of wodded areas and species impact. Then the SS aspect in society changes. This is really a multifaceted area of discovery and study.

I am looking forward to see what your completed project ends up looking like.

Thanks for sharing.
