This is the final version of my tectonic plate lesson. I did use Earth Exploration Tool Box - Chapter 14, as a bais for my lesson. My World GIS is so very user friendly, everthing is laid out for you. Students loved exploring the many data bases that are avaiable.

I am looking forward to using your lesson with the kids.
They love anything on the computer and understanding plate tectonics is so difficult.
Thanks for all your work.

When you talk about a useful way to teach a difficult topic is true. What I love about GIS is the fact that it is visual and the layers allow you to manipulate what needs to be understood as the analysis is taking place. When I conducted my GIS lesson, I was closing layers to go with my analysis and then bringing up the various layers to bring out a point. Once you understand how to maneuver the layers it helps with the understanding of the topic at hand.

Hi Krys,
I took a look at the My World Gis chapter regarding Plate Tectonics and hope that I can use this program with my Grade 8 students. We, at my school, are having trouble with downloads since there is only one Tech. person to do this in the entire school system. Did you also send a copy of the lesson plan you tried with your students? I didn't find it with your template. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday the 21st.

Hi Krys,
Thanks for sharing this. I am encouraged that you successfully implemented it with your 6th graders and plan to relook for ways to include GIS in my 6th grade curriculum.

Krys,

Thanks for sharing how you used the My World GIS Project. I too wish we were able to use these programs. Unfortunately, they weren't installed properly by the company they hired to install and give the program access to students and teachers. I had really hoped we would be able to use what Carla had demonstrated with the program and GIS. I know Marie was all set to go with a lesson and had to make an alternate lesson to work with the programs that I installed in my lab.

Perhaps we'll get the chance yet, but we won't have this programs support from Carla.

Your lesson will be one we can use when we get things straightened out. Thanks!

Anne Marie
