Background Information

Tisha Emerson is the Associate Department Chair and Associate Professor of Economics at Baylor University. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Southern California in 2002.

Tisha currently serves on the American Economic Association's Committee on Economic Education and has served as an instructor on the NSF funded Teaching Innovations Program (TIP).

Related Pedagogical Projects

In economic education, Tisha's research interests lie primarily in the area of assessing pedagogical effectiveness - with special interest in experiments. She has published papers studying the effects on student outcomes (achievement, majors, etc.) of classroom experiments. These papers include "Comparing Student Achievement Across Experimental and Lecture-Oriented Sections of a Principles of Microeconomics Course" in the Southern Economic Journal (2004), "Interactions Between Personality Type and the Experimental Methods" in the Journal of Economic Education (2007), and "Do Classroom Experiments Affect the Number of Economics Enrollments and Majors?: A Study of Students in the United States" in the International Review of Economics Education (forthcoming).

Tisha's current research studies the impact on student achievement of required homework and the relative efficacy of hand-run and computerized experiments in the micro principles classroom.
