Background Information

Shelby Frost is a Clinical Associate Professor of Economics and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Economics in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. She is also the Director of GSU's Center for Business and Economic Education. She earned her PhD and MA degrees in Economics from University of Colorado-Boulder. She also holds a MS in Mathematics from University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and earned an MBA and BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from University of West Georgia.

Shelby has taught courses in mathematical economics, environmental economics, and principles of economics. She focuses more on teaching than formal policy research in her non-tenure track position. She typically teaches some of the largest sections of economics courses offered, and makes use of technology to make the class more engaging for the students. For example, she was an early adopter of "clickers" in the classroom at GSU. She received the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007.

Shelby is involved in many activities related to teaching. She frequently presents at conferences with sessions related to economic education, such as the Council on Economic Education, and the Association of Private Enterprise Education. She serves as the Director of GSU's Center for Economic Education, where she works closely with the Georgia Council on Economic Education, an organization whose mission is "to help teachers teach those students in the public and independent schools of Georgia." She has been involved in multiple workshops for high school economics teachers as part of her role as Center Director. She also serves on the Department of Economics' GTA Undergraduate Teaching Committee, which helps to train the graduate students to teach. She is also actively involved in GSU's Center for Teaching and Learning.
