Figure 1 - The Middle Fork Salmon River (MFSR) is ~7440 km^2 and is located in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness in central Idaho. Ten study sites have been classified into upper and lower basins based on the type of vegetation found within the study basin contributing area reflecting differences in temperature and precipitation. The map on the right shows fire perimeters from the US Forest Service for the five largest (years with the greatest acreage burned) fire years recorded during the last 30 years.
