Figure 4: The storm records from New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine as derived from lake cores and alluvial fans. The top graph depicts increases and decreases in the number of coarse-grained lake deposits and, by inference, storms when combining all the records from New Hampshire and Maine. Similarly, the middle graph depicts increases and decreases in the number of storms from all of the New York and Vermont records. The bottom graph shows the ages of storm-derived alluvial fan deposits. The error bars represent the age range based on the uncertainty associated with the radiocarbon dating techniques.
