This demonstration of the charge in soil solutions uses a 9V battery. The demo is adaptable to any educational setting (level or activity type). Attach wires (or paperclips) to both leads on the battery and dip them into a soil paste (mixture of soil and water). One lead will collect more clay than the other (shown by wiping each lead on a paper towel after), reflecting the valence state of the soil solution.
