• Specific changes you are hoping to see in student learning.
• Specific course activities you plan to develop.
• If your work would be supported by the 2012 HHMI award, how you see your proposal affecting the award's goal of promoting "integrative science and math education". In particular, will the proposed activities support creating practical links between courses, introduce authentic research into courses, introduce civic engagement into courses, or promote integrative learning in another way?
• If your work would be supported by the 2012 HHMI award, how do you see your proposal promoting the study of complex systems or the use of visualization or computational modeling tools? If your proposed work includes the use of new instrumentation acquired with input of HHMI funds (the computational cluster, the weather station, the ICPMS, etc.).

An important component of our HHMI award is assessing the success and disseminating some of the curricular changes we make. In order to help facilitate this process, and to help make your grant reporting as painless as possible, there will be a workshop held in June, 2013 that brings together faculty who receive HHMI curriculum development grants. The workshop will focus on assessment strategies that you can use (or adapt) to help measure student learning with a specific focus on integrative learning and transfer between math and science courses at Carleton. Applying for this support implies a responsibility on your part to:
• Assess the impact of the changes in your courses on student learning and abilities. (This is what the workshop will help with!)
• Write up a summary of your project and assessment for the project website.
• Participate in the overall evaluation of the HHMI funded work (most likely by giving a survey to students and filling one out yourself).
