Supplemental Instruction part of Case Studies
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program that utilizes peer assisted study sessions. SI study sessions are informal seminars in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools and predict test items. The SI sessions are directed by "SI leaders," usually students who have previously and successfully taken the course and then sit through the course again.
Engineering Academic Support Resources part of Case Studies
The Engineering Academic Support Program seeks to help engineering students to succeed in their first two years, when almost all attrition occurs. This attrition occurs disproportionately among underrepresented minority and women students.
FOCUS part of Case Studies
FOCUS supports students through their entry into the study of science/math at Carleton and as they continue in the curriculum by creating a cohort which enrolls in classes together (in so far as this makes sense), meets regularly in a colloquium throughout the first year, and has an opportunity for work study in the sciences.
