STEM Tutoring Program Manager - Position Open at Univ of Michigan

The Science Learning Center (SLC) at the University of Michigan seeks a Tutoring Program Manager for science tutoring. The SLC is an interdisciplinary resource center sponsored by the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) to support teaching and learning in the natural sciences at the University of Michigan. The natural science disciplines at the U of M include astronomy, biology, biophysics, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences and physics. The SLC's mission is to support student learning and interest in the sciences by providing well-coordinated resources, vibrant learning communities, and engaging co-curricular programs. Through maintaining a supportive learning environment for students enrolled in science courses, the SLC's facilities, programs, and resources are designed to facilitate collaborative learning and team building and to empower students to reach their academic, personal and career goal.

The Program Manager coordinates all aspects of the SLC Tutoring Program. The program includes both drop-in and appointment-based tutoring with a focus on developing students' long-term learning strategies.

  • Coordinate all aspects of a peer-based tutoring program supporting introductory science students.
  • Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and supervise undergraduate peer tutors, peer mentors, and help room desk staff
  • Foster the educational development and personal growth of undergraduate peer tutors
  • Research and implement learning center and tutoring program best practices.
  • Develop and maintain tutor training materials and oversee development of instructional materials that support student learning in the sciences.
  • Organize and maintain reporting systems including recording attendance, agendas and activities, trends in usage, and preparing reports. Collect, analyze and distribute statistical reports on tutoring and other student support activities as part of overall assessment plan.
  • Maintain tutoring facilities as a welcoming space for students seeking assistance.
  • Work with administrative assistant to monitor electronic scheduling and compensation of student workers.
  • Publicize programs to faculty and students.
  • Conduct outreach and collaborate with faculty and staff in other departments and units, including the Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP).
