Analysis of powders for mineral composition.
Analysis of thin films for mineral composition.

Visitors are invited to work in the lab to work with lab personnel.
Visitors are invited to work in the lab to design and do the work yourself.
Training session (short course) is offered.

ICAL is a user facility that supports basic research and provides access to equipment and expertise to the academic community and the private sector.

Sample Preparation:

Standard powder holder requires about a teaspoon of powder for convenient analysis. Smaller amounts of powder can be accommodated by mounting powder on a glass slide for analysis.

Standard Collections/Lab Blanks:

System is calibrated routinely using a quartz standard.

Software:

The database ICDD-PCPDF2 is available to use in conjunction with the Scintag software for mineral identification.

Educational Use:

Class demonstrations are available for undergraduates.
Undergraduate student research projects are invited.
Graduate student research projects are invited.
Tutorials and other educational materials related to the lab are available.
