Propose a New Module
We are inviting proposals for on-line modules on effective teaching methods and examples of their use in introductory geoscience courses. These modules will be tied into the upcoming workshop on teaching introductory geoscience, and will become part of the Starting Point collection and the SERC pedagogic service.
Here is a list of existing pedagogic modules that are currently hosted at SERC. We are seeking proposals for new modules that highlight a pedagogic technique, such as Teaching with GIS, Experience-Based Environmental Projects or Interactive Lectures, or modules that showcase an overall approach to teaching geoscience, such as Using an Earth History Approach. Note that we are hoping to add new ideas and methods, rather than repeating existing ones.
For information on how to design and submit a module, please refer to the instructions at Creating Modules and Activities. If you would like to propose a module, please give the title, a short description of the method, the experience that you will draw upon in writing the module, and a list of at least 5 examples you will include in the module (these can be drawn from your own experience or those of others).
Authors of accepted proposals will receive a stipend for completion of the materials. Approximately 3-4 awards are available. The amount of the stipend award will be up to $4000 per module, depending on the scope of the project. Preference will be given to proposals that tie into the upcoming workshop and can be presented there.
