Teaching Geodesy in the 21st Century

In this Follow-on Workshop to 2007's workshop, participants learned about applications of geodesy to different subdisciplines of Earth science, worked on examples and their own materials to produce interactive, engaging learning material for students, and helped identify aspects of geodesy to be included in introductory college level geology education.

Participants brought an example of a lecture, activity, or homework which they wanted to improve. Revised materials will be contributed to the workshop website, along with a list of concepts in geodesy which could be included in introductory level geology courses. This was a highly interactive workshop and participants engaged in discussions about both geodesy content and new teaching techniques. The intent was that they would come away with new ideas about how to engage students in the classroom along with new knowledge about the latest in 21st Century geodesy.

This workshop was part of the On the Cutting Edge professional development program for current and future geoscience faculty, and was sponsored by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers with funding provided by a grant from the National Science Foundation - Division of Undergraduate Education.
