ASA: Promoting the Practice and Profession of Statistics™

The American Statistical Association is the world's largest community of statisticians. The ASA supports excellence in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through meetings, publications, membership services, education, accreditation, and advocacy. Our members serve in industry, government, and academia in more than 90 countries, advancing research and promoting sound statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare.

ASA is dedicated to advancing statistics education at all levels, including undergraduate education. Enhancing undergraduate statistics education is vital for the statistical literacy of professionals, for recruiting and preparing future statisticians, and to promote data-based decision making in society.

Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education (CAUSE)
http://www.causeweb.org

Arising from a strategic initiative of the American Statistical Association, CAUSE is a national organization whose mission is to support and advance undergraduate statistics education in the four target areas of resources, professional development, outreach, and research. CAUSE offers free statistics education webinars, workshops, and resources and hosts the U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics and Electronic Conference on Teaching Statistics. The ASA Director of Education serves on the CAUSE board and ASA and CAUSE work together to advance undergraduate statistics education.

Though ASA partners with CAUSE on many projects including faculty development, CAUSE as a separate national organization has done an incredible amount of faculty development (free workshops, webinars, research, providing resources, and hosting the U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics and the Electronic Conference on Teaching Statistics).

CAUSE has had a very large reach and is involved with many NSF proposals related to professional development, research, and outreach regarding undergraduate statistics education.

There have been many publications arising from the professional development, research, and outreach efforts of CAUSE. An example article is http://www.amstat.org/publications/jse/v20n2/eversontb.pdf. For more information, see www.causeweb.org.
