Background Information

David Voorhees has been teaching geosciences full time at Waubonsee Community College since 2002, after several years of part-time teaching. He found his passion for teaching while working on his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. He is passionate about bringing to his students an understanding of the geosciences, and is constantly experimenting with different pedagogies to engage his typical general education student. Part of this experimentation is his active involvement in the IRIS consortium, and being the current President of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers Geo2YC Division. He is also PI on an NSF S-STEM grant (DUE 0965822) - Waubonsee Community College S-STEM Scholarship Program

Related Pedagogical Projects

Dave has been active in the development and implementation of the Geo2YC Division of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) that was recently formed in 2011, and is the current President. This is the first Division in NAGT and it is dedicated to supporting and advocating for geoscience instructors at two-year colleges. In the first year of the Division, we have published 3 newsletters, sponsored several sessions at professional meetings, both national and regional, sponsored workshops for 2YC geoscience instructors, developed promotional materials, and begun a 'Best Practices' study. The website for the Division is http://nagt.org/nagt/divisions/2yc/index.html
